WELCOME TO IEEE VISUALIZATION '97
Welcome to the eighth annual IEEE Visualization conference!
Continuing in the tradition of past conferences, we believe that we have another
strong technical program that addresses the varied aspects of visualization:
algorithms, techniques and applications. The number of
Late Breaking Hot Topic (lbht) sessions has been doubled due to the very positive response we got to their introduction last year. These sessions consist of late breaking topics or works in
progress. We think you will find our keynote speaker (Tom DeFanti) and our capstone speaker (Mark Pesce) rather insightful and thought-provoking. We have expanded our Friday program in response to the large increase in paper submissions we received this year.
The conference week has a varied program for you to choose from. The conference unofficially begins on Saturday with a workshop on Data Mining and Data Visualization and a new workshop on Visualization of Personal Computers. Symposia and Tutorials start on Sunday. We have three Symposia this year which start on Sunday: Information Visualization(InfoVis), Parallel Rendering (PRS), and a new symposium called AVS User and Developer Meeting (AVS97). In conjunction with the AVS97, we are offering a hands-on, all-day tutorial on Monday as part of the expanded tutorial program this year. A total of eight tutorials are offered Sunday through
Tuesday and cover subjects for the beginner and the advanced attendee. The
technical program starts Wednesday and begins with the Keynote Address, followed
by concurrent sessions of papers, panels, case studies, and lbhts, each presenting the latest
issues, research, and applications in visualization. Demonstrations of
visualization products, tools, and applications will begin mid-day on Wednesday
and continue through Thursday afternoon. Also we have changed our registation system to offer attendees more opportunities to move between the various offerings on Sunday through Tuesday.
We hope you can join us in Phoenix the week of October 19 - 24, 1997
for IEEE Visualization '97. Besides the technical program, you have a chance to
meet and talk with leaders in the field of visualization and enjoy one of the nicest places to be in mid-October. Don't forget your swim wear, basketball shoes, tennis racket, or desert hiking boots.
