Installation
Installation Instructions for SolidMesh on a:

Silicon Graphics workstation
Sun workstation
HP workstation

Additional Suggested Software:

XMGR

Installing SolidMesh on a Silicon Graphics workstation

SolidMesh must have the following minimum configuration:

  • Operating System: IRIX 6.2 (or higher).
  • Hardware: R4000 processor (or higher) with XS24 graphics (or higher). To determine if you have the correct hardware use the command "hinv".
  • Software: OpenInventor and XWindows/Motif n32 packages. To determine if you have the correct versions of software run the command "versions | grep n32". You should see the following packages:
  • inventor_eoe.sw32
    inventor_eoe.sw32.lib
    motif_eoe.sw32
    motif_eoe.sw32.eoe
    x_eoe.sw32
    x_eoe.sw32.eoe

If any of the packages do not show up, you must install them from the SGI operating system CD that came with your machine.

  • Virtual swap space defined. To determine if virtual swap space is defined for your machine type in the command "swap -ln". You should see a line that defines "/.swap.virtual". If this line does not show up you must become root and type in the command "chkconfig -f vswap on". Then you must edit the file "/etc/config/vswap.options". The vswap.options file should contain a single line that looks like:
  •  vswaplen=2000000

The vswaplen is defined as blocks (1 block = 512k). The vswap for this vswap.options file would be set to 1 gig. We recommend a virtual swap space of at least 500 meg. Note: The virtual swap space is necessary for mallocing huge "virtual" arrays for FORTRAN. None of this memory is ever used, and this is purely an SGI hack to make things work.

Installing SolidMesh on a Sun workstation

SolidMesh requires the following minimum configuration:

  •   Operating System: Solaris 2.6 (or higher)
  •   Hardware: UltraSPARC (sun4u) processor with Creator/Elite graphics.

Installing XMGR

XMGR is an excellent XY plotting package available as freeware. It is relatively easy to install and runs on any UNIX box with X. You should get it independent of SolidMesh. It is availiable at the official XMGR web site:
