HPC² NewsCAVS and the Starkville Police Department Partner in Using Robotics TechnologyAugust 7, 2012The Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems and the Starkville Police Department have been working together for the past several years in testing and using high-tech equipment that is beneficial for both. Lt. Mark Ballard, the team leader for the Starkville Police Department's SWAT Team and Drs. Daniel Carruth and Cindy Bethel with CAVS have been working together on the different projects. CAVS is able to test the cutting edge technology on the officers and in turn, gives the police deparment access to the robotics equipment. There are currently three different robots being tested by CAVS. Those consist of the Parrot AR Drone, and two unmanned ground vehicles, the MMP 30, and the Husky A200. All three are funded through grants or internal university money through Mississippi State University's Bagley College of Engineering Funds. They are provided at no cost to the police department.
