|Biography:||Maggie joined the Northern Gulf Institute (NGI) at Stennis Space Center in 2009, handling communications and outreach, producing their 10-year strategic plan, and co-coordinating annual conferences. After the BP oil spill in 2010, the Gulf of Mexico Alliance contracted NGI to support the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI), a ten-year $500 million research program investigating oil spill effects on the environment and public health. As of April 2016, GoMRI has funded $354 Million in research involving 1,460 scientists, 270 postdocs, and 1,020 graduate students representing 240 academic institution in 41 states and 16 countries. |
As one of the original GoMRI management team members, Maggie helped develop their communication policy and operational processes for a fast-growing body of science. She produces original content for the GoMRI website with nearly 300 stories published so far (April 2016), developing trusted working relationships with scientists to broadly share their work. Maggie provides direct support to the GoMRI Chief Science Officer for public and internal communications.
Maggie previously worked with the MSU Social Science Research Center Evaluation and Decision Support Laboratory, authoring or co-authoring 18 evaluation reports. She provided evaluation and research for NASA's Education Office at Stennis Space Center, the MS Department of Health, MS Delta Health Alliance, American Cancer Society, U.S. Space and Rocket Center, University of Southern Mississippi, and Marshall Space Flight Center. She also taught English at Saint Stanislaus high school.
Maggie received her M.B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi and her B.A. in Secondary Education English from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Recognitions include the 2016 MSU Centers and Institutes Research Support Award, the National Performance Review Hammer Award, Stennis Space Centerís Commercial Remote Sensing Workforce Development Education and Training Initiative; NASAís Inter-Organizational Group Achievement Award; and Outstanding Performance, Evaluation and Decision Support Laboratory, MSU Social Science Research Center.
