|Biography:||Masoud Rais-Rohani received his BS and MS degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Mississippi State University and his PhD degree in the same field from Virginia Tech. He began his academic career at MSU in 1991 where he is currently a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and Computational Engineering. He is actively engaged in teaching and research. His primary areas of teaching include analysis and design of aerospace structures and engineering design optimization. He has also taught engineering mechanics courses covering such topics as mechanics of composite materials and the finite element method. He is a member of ASEE and has received multiple grants in support of his engineering education projects. He has authored two extensive Web-based tutorials for engineering mechanics and aircraft structures. His research efforts are centered on simulation-based design optimization of structural and multidisciplinary systems, with emphasis on fiber-reinforced composites, structural reliability, uncertainty quantification, and surrogate modeling techniques. He has been the principal or co-principal investigator on multiple research grants and contracts sponsored principally by NSF, DOE, NASA, and DoD. His research activities have resulted in over sixty articles on such topics as tailoring of composite structures, topology optimization, crashworthiness optimization, uncertainty, reliability-based design, and response surface methods. He is active in professional societies and serves on the editorial board of one journal. He is an Associate Fellow of AIAA, a Grisham Master Teacher, a member of BCoE Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and was recognized as a Hearin Eminent Scholar.|
